How to compress JPG images

Your files stay private
Uploads are stored under a random name with no connection to the file you sent, and they are never served from a public directory. Input files are deleted within two hours and finished downloads within 24 hours. Nobody looks at them, and nothing is shared with anyone.

- How is this different from just saving at lower quality?
- We use mozjpeg, which spends more effort choosing how to encode each block and produces a smaller file than a standard encoder at matching visual quality. We also strip EXIF and colour-profile bloat, which on phone photos alone can be tens of kilobytes.
- How much can I compress before it looks bad?
- Quality 78 is a good default that stays clean on almost anything. Around 60 you start seeing softness in fine detail. Below 50, blocky edges show up around text and hard lines. Photos tolerate compression far better than screenshots do.
- Can I compress the same file twice?
- You can, but you should not. Every JPG re-encode discards more detail, and the losses stack. Always compress from the best original you have rather than from an already-compressed copy.
- My file barely got smaller. Why?
- It was probably already compressed — many phones and most websites do this on export. There is only so much redundancy in a file, and once it is gone a second pass mostly just degrades quality.
- Do you keep my files?
- No. Files are stored on our server only while the job runs. Uploads are deleted within 2 hours and finished downloads within 24 hours, whichever comes first. We never open, inspect or share them.
