Convert PNG to AVIF
This is the conversion with the largest saving we offer. PNG stores every pixel exactly; AVIF keeps a full alpha channel while compressing the picture far harder than WebP can.

Output quality
Lossy AVIF with the alpha channel intact. Because the source is lossless the encoder has clean data to work from, and the reductions are the largest of any tool here: our benchmark screenshot goes from a 3.7 MB PNG to around 5 KB, and a flat-colour graphic to about 1 KB, with the similarity measurement still reading essentially perfect.
Privacy and file deletion
- Stored under a random nameUploads have no connection to the file name you sent and are never served from a public directory.
- Deleted on a timerUploads are removed within 2 hours and finished results within 24 hours, whichever comes first.
- Nobody looks at themNo one browses uploads, nothing is shared with third parties, and no file is used to train anything.
- Encrypted in transitEvery request runs over HTTPS, so the file is encrypted between your device and our server.
Common use cases
Interface screenshots in documentation
Flat colour and text are exactly what AVIF compresses best, and transparency around dialog corners survives intact.
Logos and illustrations on your own site
The alpha channel is preserved including antialiased edges, so the asset still sits cleanly on any background colour.
Replacing a media library full of oversized PNGs
Design tools export generous PNGs by default; this is where the biggest storage and bandwidth savings hide.
Troubleshooting
- The saving looks too good to be true
- For flat graphics it genuinely is that large — PNG stores every pixel literally, while AVIF describes regions. Compare them side by side before you delete the originals if you want to be sure.
- I need to send this file to a client
- Do not send AVIF. Support outside the browser is thin; convert to PNG or JPG for anything leaving your own pages.
- Fine text looks slightly soft at Smallest
- Smallest targets a lower similarity threshold. For screenshots with small type, Balanced or Best is the right choice.

Frequently asked questions
Browse image toolsDoes transparency survive?
Yes. AVIF has a proper alpha channel, including the partial transparency along antialiased edges that makes a logo sit cleanly on any background.
How much smaller than the PNG?
Usually enormous. Our benchmark screenshot goes from a 3.7 MB PNG to around 5 KB, and a flat-colour graphic to about 1 KB, with the structural similarity measurement still reading essentially perfect. Photographs compress less dramatically but still land well under a tenth of the PNG.
Should I use AVIF or WebP for graphics?
AVIF if the destination is a web page you control — it is smaller at matched quality. WebP if you need broader compatibility outside browsers, or if the extra encoding time matters to you.
Can everyone see an AVIF file?
Every current browser can — Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari have all supported AVIF for years. Outside the browser it is patchier: some desktop photo apps, older phones and plenty of upload forms still refuse it. Use AVIF for your own web pages, and keep a JPG for anything you have to hand to somebody else.
Do you keep my files?
No. Files are stored on our server only while the conversion runs. Uploads are deleted within 2 hours and finished downloads within 24 hours, whichever comes first. We never open, inspect or share them.
