Output quality
Lossless. Every pixel the AVIF decodes to is written to the PNG exactly, alpha channel included, so the result is an exact copy of the decoded image rather than an approximation of it. We check whether a 256-colour palette can hold the image without banding and fall back to full colour when it cannot, which is why photographs come out larger than graphics do.

Site assets are increasingly served as AVIF. Converting to JPG would fill the transparency with a solid colour; PNG keeps the cut-out usable.

Troubleshooting
- The PNG is enormous
- Expected for photographs — lossless storage of a photo is simply large. If you do not need transparency, AVIF to JPG produces a far smaller file, or run the result through Compress PNG.
- The conversion is slower than other tools
- AVIF decoding is genuinely expensive, considerably more CPU work than JPG or PNG. A few seconds for a large image is normal.
- Only the first frame of an animation came through
- Animated images are read as a single still on purpose. Handling every frame costs many times the memory and is not what a still-image converter is for.

Frequently asked questions
Browse image toolsWhen should I choose this over AVIF to JPG?
Whenever transparency matters, and whenever the image is a logo, an icon, a diagram or a screenshot. JPG has no alpha channel and smears hard edges; PNG keeps both intact.
Why is the PNG so much larger than the AVIF?
AVIF is a lossy format that compresses extremely hard. PNG is lossless and stores every pixel. A ten-times increase is normal and is the price of an exact, editable copy.
Does this recover quality the AVIF lost?
No. Detail discarded when the AVIF was encoded is gone permanently. What PNG gives you is a copy that will not degrade any further, however many times you edit and re-save it.
What happens to the images I upload in a batch?
Files up to 50 MB are accepted, and a batch is handled as separate jobs that are zipped together at the end. Every upload is stored under a random name, never served from a public folder, and deleted within 2 hours — the finished file within 24. We never open, inspect or share them, and there is no account they could be tied to.
